Rosedale New Horizons Seniors Club is celebrating its 43rd anniversary this October! The club’s 50 members meet primarily for fun. President, Franklyn Dauphinee says, “We’re a social group. This is a place that you can develop friendships.” Corinna Daurling, a long term member of the club agrees. “We like to talk! We just enjoy getting together.” Judging from the many conversations going on around the room prior to the start of the July 17th meeting, that couldn’t be truer.
The club shares a building with the Masonic Lodge. Its fully accessible and has a multi-purpose room, kitchenette, a craft cabinet and storage space.
The friendly group typically meets at 1:30 p.m. the first and third Wednesday of each month. These get-togethers always include delicious sweets and sandwiches that each member takes a turn in providing…and every meeting ends with a fun game of bingo. The Rosedale New Horizons Club also enjoys running Friday evening card parties as well as cribbage, once a month. In September they invite seniors’ groups from New Ross and Morris Town, among others, to their annual picnic and they always sure to hold a Christmas party.
Fundraising is a priority of the club and members are asked to pitch in. They hold a spring and fall Penny Auction as well as a Craft and Bake Sale, twice annually. Members sell tickets on items, including the ever-popular MacAusland Woolen blanket, a truly authentic hand-crafted blanket made in PEI, from raw wool from the Atlantic Region. The club also sells two-ply wool yarn. Members are always willing to bake a pie for a card party, help work on a quilt, provide an item for the craft cabinet or donate something for the Penny Auction and Bingo. Giving back to its community is important to the group, who support other groups and organizations such as the New Germany & Area Food Bank and Medical Centre.
“We always welcome new members, says Franklyn”. “Come out and see what you have been missing.” If you would like to learn more about the Club, feel free to call Franklyn Dauphinee at 902-543-5493. In case you didn’t know, the Rosedale New Horizons Seniors Club is for anyone Age 50+. The clubhouse is situated at 4978 Highway 10, next door to the New Germany Freshmart.
